#7 夏天 (Summer Time)

Well everyone, another week of my mission has just absolutely flown by. It is weird how quickly it all goes. Some days I feel like I have been out here for 6 months, and some days it feels like it has been 40 years.

As you probably know, summertime is now upon us in the United States. Which for most people means fun vacations, relaxing days at home, and much more. But for the American missionary, the summer time creates some interesting scenarios. For one the warmer weather brings lots of tourists to the beautiful town of Solvang, which means that now there are more foreign language speakers than there are English speakers. And for two it means that every member of the church, and their cat escapes Babylon and returns to Utah for a month or two. And third it means that temperatures during the day often break 100 degrees.

Now none of these things are bad, but they do make things more interesting, they pose scenarios that I haven't ever worked with. Which leads me to a thought.

Often in life we are handed scenarios, and situations that we have never dealt with before. And essentially we are told: "Deal with it". This is almost always something that causes anxiety, stress, and even fear.

So, what do you do in such a scenario? Our mission has been talking a lot about goal setting and achieving this week and some of the tips for setting goals apply here.

1st. Take inventory of your resources, what do you have that can help you.

2nd. Make a detailed plan of action, how are you going to use each and every item in your inventory.

3rd. Take massive action, don't just sit around waiting for things to happen. Follow your plan and jump in head first.

4th. Review, did the plan work, did you overcome the obstacle or achieve the goal? If not, analyze, reassess, and make the changes needed to overcome the obstacle.

I know that sometimes things are hard and we find ourselves saying, how can I possibly continue, how can I possibly get over this obstacle. I know that as we take the next step, and make the next leap of faith. We will make it through. You will almost always get scratched or bruised, but you will make it through.
