#9 說教 (Preach)
Hello world! It's been a really busy week here in Solvang. Between interviews with President Carter, exchanges, and TWO zone conferences we have been running crazy all week.
Our interviews with President Carter were awesome. It's crazy to think I have known him for almost 2 years now. I am always super grateful that a man as busy as he is, with as many missionaries as he looks over, he still takes the time to sit down, and talk one on one with me. It's always awesome.
Our Zone conferences were in conjunction with a mission tour from our area President Mark Bragg. It was awesome to learn from him and see the way he taught. It was awesome. He definitely answered my questions and helped me learn more about my role as a servant of the Lord.
The exchanges we had were a lot of fun. I got to spend the day in Solvang with Elder Parker! He is such a good missionary and I learned a lot from his example, and the things he taught me.
Now I would like to share an experience we had on Saturday afternoon. We had the genius idea of taking our whiteboard to downtown Solvang and talking about peace with people. So we set up in front of a sign and asked people what brought them peace. What happened next was rather interesting. People would walk by, see the sign, see the nametags, and keep on walking, despite our simple question of what brought them peace. One man in fact went out of his way to come back after already walking by and got mad at us for something that was simply false. We tried explaining that he was just wrong but he wouldn't have any of it. It was super frustrating, and made me truthfully pretty mad.
As we walked away though talking about the experience, we noticed something rather interesting. While yes we were ignored, made fun of, and even persecuted a little. We had another realization. At that moment, we were just like the prophets of old. Just think back to any Old testament, new testament, or Book of Mormon prophet, and you will find that most of the time they were going through the exact same things. Most of the time much worse than we were.
So when you are being persecuted for righteousness sake, despised for publishing peace, and pushed away for bringing joy, just remember that the exact same thing happened to the prophets of old, and the prophets today.
Matthew 5:10 "Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
Two lines from a song a like about this topic:
"You can bury the workmen, but the work will go on. You can silence the singer, but you can't stop the song"
